Rapiscan use AutoMod modelling software

Rapiscan Systems Dashboard software use AutoMod to perform real time customisation of models

Rapiscan Systems, the global security inspection specialists, have developed a bespoke customer facing interface for their AutoMod modelling software that enables them to demonstrate their latest technologies to airports and authorities considering customisation in real time.

With many of the UK’s larger airports already adopting automation in their scanning technology, Rapiscan appreciates the importance of accurately demonstrating the effectiveness of its equipment to potential customers as well as enabling them to visualise the topical systems in action.

Rapiscan has been using the AutoMod software from AutoLogic Systems for the past three years. However, until now the simulation models have only been used internally for their own research and development and the results of the simulation was only exposed to the customers in documents.

Vejen Hlebarov, R&D Manager at Rapiscan Systems says: "We realised that potential customers could benefit hugely from being able to apply their own requirements to the models in real time by customising parameters of processes and equipment, even modifying layout. With AutoMod capable of real time visualisation, it is possible to present the system working as if it was already in situ. We just needed to create a user friendly interface that our sales team could access through their laptops without excessive training or programming knowledge."

"AutoMod enables a c-sharp programme to be developed alongside it so on one half of the screen you can change values such as the number of passengers, baggage throughput, number of staff and baggage type whilst real time histograms and simulations are displayed on the other half.

"We can compare different models and parameters next to each other to achieve optimum throughput and the most effective layout. The simulations with all parameters can also be saved for the client to be used internally after the meeting, which helps them feed back the information to fellow decision makers and colleagues."

Andy Parsons of AutoLogic Systems, the sole UK distributor for AutoMod, adds: "The add-on interface enhances the already powerful simulation that AutoMod offers. The solution is totally dynamic and allows the customer to see immediate results. This is the perfect solution for companies looking to assess a simulation at regular intervals as well as looking at the final outputs."

Rapiscan Systems also proved the effectiveness of this approach. Significant reduction of the time (30% to 50% depending of the complexity of the system) can be achieved to customise and optimise new solutions in comparison to a traditional approach.

Traditional versus the new approach
